I.  Graded Courses [24 credits]

A. Foundations

B. Rhetoric and Composition

9 semester credits from the following:

  • ENGL 508: Seminar in Assessment of Writing
  • ENGL 509: Seminar in the History of Global Rhetorics
  • ENGL 515: Contemporary Theories of Rhetoric
  • ENGL 531: Administering a Writing Program
  • ENGL 532: Teaching Writing to Nontraditional Students
  • ENGL 534: Theories and Methods of the Teaching of Technical and Professional Writing
  • ENGL 597: Topics in Composition and Rhetoric

C. Linguistics

Minimum of 3 semester hours from the following courses:

  • ENGL 543: Phonology
  • ENGL 544: Syntax
  • ENGL 546: Topics in Teaching English as a Second Language
  • ENGL 554: History of the English Language

D. Other Required Courses

  • Electives (3 3-credit courses from any English 500-level offering and no more than 1 course of non-graduate coursework from 300- and 400-level courses)
